Legacy Diamonds
FAQ
What makes Springer's LEGACY™ Diamonds sustainable?
Springer's Legacy™ Diamond Collection features diamonds that have been reclaimed from old or worn settings. By reusing these diamonds, we reduce the need for new mining, thereby minimizing environmental impact.
How do you source Springer's LEGACY™ Diamonds?
We buy the diamonds directly from the previous owner! Sometimes the diamond is purchased loose, and other times our jewelers unset it from a setting that gets recycled. If you are interested in selling or trading in your diamond, schedule an appointment to meet with our diamonds buyers at any of our three retail locations.
What happens to the other components of the ring that you source?
If we can't upcylce the setting due to the condition or style of the setting, we send the precious metal to be melted down so that it can be recycled to make new jewelry, thus reducing the need for new gold and platinum mining. There is literally nothing that gets thrown out in the process.
How are Springer's LEGACY™ Diamonds certified?
Springer's LEGACY™ Diamonds are authenticated and graded by our in-house staff of gemologists.
Why is Springer's focused on sustainable diamonds?
At Springer's, we truly believe a diamond is forever. Whether it is passed down within a family generation to generation, or acquired second-hand, you’re choosing a natural beauty with its own story, it's own legacy, making it a sustainable choice for those who value individuality.
How does sustainability tie in with Springer's core values?
We believe in transparency and authenticity in our sustainability claims. Our aim is to provide customers with beautiful jewelry options that are mindful of both environmental and ethical considerations.

Breaking Down The 4 C's
The First C: Cut
Of all the 4Cs, cut has the greatest effect on a diamond’s beauty. We often think of a diamond’s cut as shape (round, heart, oval, marquise, pear), but what diamond cut actually does mean is how well a diamond’s facets interact with light. In determining the quality of the cut, the grader evaluates the cutter’s skill in the fashioning of the diamond. The more precise the cut, the more captivating the diamond is to the eye.
The Second C: Color
Gem-quality diamonds occur in many hues. In the range from colorless to light yellow or light brown, many of these diamond color distinctions are so subtle that they are invisible to the untrained eye; however, these distinctions make a very big difference in diamond quality and price. Hence, it is important to get a GIA expert’s opinion in evaluating the best color for your diamond.
The Third C: Clarity
Diamonds can have internal characteristics known as inclusions or external characteristics known as blemishes. Diamonds without inclusions or blemishes are rare; however, most of these characteristics can only be seen with magnification. Evaluating diamond clarity involves determining the number, size, relief, nature, and position of these characteristics, as well as how these affect the overall appearance of the stone.
The Fourth C: Carat Weight
The carat is the diamond’s physical weight measured in metric carats. One carat equals 1/5 gram and is subdivided into 100 points. Carat weight is the most objective of the 4Cs. It involves no estimates, comparisons or judgments. However, two diamonds of equal carat weight can have very different values (and prices) depending on three other factors of the diamond 4Cs.
The Fifth C: Confidence
What's one extra C for peace of mind? When you shop smart — with American Gem Society’s top jeweler — you will feel confident in your decision. You know that the jeweler is qualified to describe the characteristics of your diamond, so you can make the choice that is right for you.
Brillance
The first measure of a diamond’s sparkle is brilliance, or how well it reflects white light. When you see a diamond sparkling in a dimly lit or candlelit room, what you’re seeing is its brilliance. If a diamond isn’t cut correctly, it will appear dim and dull, even in perfect lighting.
Fire
The second measure of a diamond's sparkle is fire, or how well it displays colored light. When you see a diamond with a rainbow-like appearance, it's a result of the correct balance of proportions from the top and bottom of the diamond. Diamonds with too deep or too shallow a cut won't refract colored light properly, resulting in a flat appearance.
Scintillation
The last measure of a diamond's sparkle is scintillation, or how well the diamond reflects light when it's moving, when the light source is moving, or when the person wearing the diamond is moving. When a diamond has high scintillation, it has very few spots where no sparkle occurs. In a well-cut diamond, most of the surface area of the diamond emits some visible sparkle.
